The Greenfjord Cryosphere Cluster invites young people from Narsaq to join their scientific glacier expedition on ice-ship Adolf Jensen
The Greenfjord Cryosphere Cluster has again chartered the ice ship Adolf Jensen (https://www.60north.gl/en/shipping-charter/adolf-jensen/) .
From July 23-27 they will be going to Equalorutsit Kangilliit Sermiat (Qajuuttap Sermia). The boat is leaving Qaqortoq early in the morning on the 23 July. The team aims to arrive at the glacier in the afternoon. The boat will be back in Qaqortoq in the evening of the 27th.
The Greenfjord Cryosphere Cluster invites three young people from Narsaq, or two young people and a grown-up to join this trip. Onboard there will be multiple scientific activities that young people could join:
- multiple temperature/salinity profiles in the fjord
- retrieval of ocean-bottom-seismometers
- retrieval of subsea fiber-optic cable
- maybe some fjord sediment coring
Tasks for the young people might include:
a little diary about their learning, a report or presentation, a photo/ drawing exhibition and verbal report to the project…
During the time on the boat kids will also have the possibility to visit a science camp that has been made close to the glacier, where they can experience the instruments to measure the glacier.
Maude from Greenfjord will be joining the ship to look after the young people. She speaks English, but no Greenlandic or Danish.
